We used LiDAR to create immersive visuals for a meditation app

You hold up your phone, breathe out, and colour spreads across the walls of the room you're sitting in. Breathe in and it pulls back. It's a new part of Fluid, the meditation app we've made since 2018, and it uses the iPhone's depth sensor to keep the colour on your real walls.

Most breathing apps give you a circle to watch. We've made Fluid since 2018, and we wanted to try something bigger: the room you're already sitting in.

On iPhones with LiDAR, the phone maps the walls around you, so the colour stays on them as you move. Tap a wall near you and the ripple reaches the far wall a moment later. The pace comes from your breath, four counts in and six out, and the walls swell a little as you breathe in.

There are four looks, Bloom, Neon, Melt and Mandala, and they fade into each other. You can draw light into the air with a fingertip, or blow on the phone and watch the room bloom. If music's playing from another app, the room moves to the song.

On screens that support HDR the colour glows, and you can save a photo of your room mid-breath.

Projects, press or anything else.
