Point at it, find more of it

Tap the moon in a picture and get more moons. A visual discovery system that searches a whole image library on the phone, with no server and no cost per search.

Point at it, find more of it

Most image apps stop at "Similar". We wanted people to search pictures the way they look at them.

Four ways to find

  • Tap to find. Hold a picture and tap a thing inside it: the moon, a lion, a lone tree. You get images that contain that thing, wherever it sits and whatever is behind it.
  • Steer. Chips under a picture move the results one step at a time: Darker, Warmer, Calmer, Subject lower, Bigger. Steps chain, and each one can be undone.
  • Describe. Type or say a sentence, like "a moon in a dark sky". The parts it understood show as chips, so nothing is a black box.
  • Similar that stops where the real matches stop, instead of padding the list.

Why it costs nothing to run

Every image is studied once, ahead of time: its look, its light, how busy or empty it is, and the things in it, outlined. So by the time you tap the moon, the phone already knows where every other moon is. Nothing is guessed by a language model; the system actually looks at the pictures.

Browsing is a lookup, not a query. No server, no AI call per search, results in an instant. It costs the same for ten people or ten million.

What testing showed

Judged by eye across the whole library, top eight results:

  • Describe: 40 of 40 fit the sentence.
  • Tap to find: 61 of 72.
  • Steer: 69 of 88. Warmer and Calmer land 88% of the time; Darker on images that are already dark is the weak spot, and the next thing to fix.

Results can improve without an app update. It ships first in Wallpapers Now, in an upcoming update.
